Children Of The Sun is the first track on Mayte's first and only album Child Of The Sun. The song was written by Mayte and , and produced by Prince (as ) (although no production credit is given), with additional production by Kirk Johnson.
While specific recording dates are not known, basic tracking took place in 1993 or 1994, at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota. It was included, in a more raw form than released, as the first track on a 5 May 1995 configuration of Child Of The Sun, where it remained for release, although it was worked on further in Summer 1995 before release. It is not known if the track was included on Mayte's album Scorpio, which included some tracks from Child Of The Sun.
The title comes from a line in The Exodus Has Begun - "these are the days of the children of the sun" - since the track mentions several other song titles, it's possible Children Of The Sun was already recorded, or at least planned, at the time of the line's inclusion.
While the title of the song is thematically linked to that of Rainbow Children, the songs are entirely different.
