Love Sign was a promotional single released two months before the album 1-800 New Funk (a compilation of mostly-unreleased music largely written and produced by Prince/ , recorded by other Paisley Park Records/ NPG Records artists), and is credited to Nona Gaye and .
Following on from The Most Beautiful Girl In The World, the single uses the name and was released through NPG Records rather than Warner Bros., who had agreed that he could appear as a guest on the album (hence his name appears after Nona Gaye’s), but did not authorize a single release; as such, the single was only available as a promotional item, and no commercial release was allowed.
The US promotional cd contained 2gether by the New Power Generation, also taken from the 1-800 New Funk album. The German promotional CD included a radio edit and a longer version of Love Sign.
The single reached number 72 on the US Billboard Hot 100 Airplay Chart, and number 32 on the Billboard R&B Airplay Chart.
