Standing At The Altar was the fifth and final single to be released from the album 1-800 New Funk (a compilation of mostly-unreleased music largely written and produced by Prince/ , recorded by other Paisley Park Records/ NPG Records artists), although it was the only single to receive a wide commercial release.
It was released a month after the album in the UK and Europe. The b-side, 17 (by Madhouse), was also taken from the album. The single was released in the USA in February 1995.
The promotional 12" and cassette in the USA included the previously-unreleased track Whistlin’ Kenny, which has not been made available on any other release.
The single charted for a week only at position 100 in the UK and did not enter the charts in the USA .
