Johnny is the fourteenth track (tenth song) on the New Power Generation’s first 'solo' album Gold Nigga (the thirteenth track and ninth song on later pressings of the CD). On 24 March 2004, a download titled Bataclan featuring live recordings from 29 October 2002 (a.m.) at Le Bataclan, Paris of NPG In This Funky House (mostly instrumental but with a clean version of the song’s chant) and All The Critics Love U In Paris was issued to mark the launch of the NPG Music Club’s Musicology Download Store. While specific recording dates are not known, basic tracking took place around Halloween 1991 in late October/early November 1991, at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota (during a 10-hour session that also yielded 3 Chains O’ Gold and Love 2 The 9’s). Of note is that this track is the earliest recording to feature Mr. Hayes in the studio as a band member (he previously played on unidentified remix(es) made for the Shake! maxi-single).
