My Love Is Forever is the seventh track on Prince’s first album For You. In 1979, it was included as the b-side on some versions of I Wanna Be Your Lover, the first single from Prince’s second album Prince.

An early version of the song was recorded in the Summer of 1976 at Moon Sound in Minneapolis, Minnesota, under the name Love Is Forever, using Chris Moon’s original lyrics (during the same set of sessions as Aces, Baby, Diamond Eyes, Don’t Forget, Don’t Hold Back, Fantasy, I’m Yours, Jelly Jam (which was later used as the instrumental portion of Just As Long As We’re Together), Leaving For New York, Make It Through The Storm, Since We’ve Been Together, Surprise and Soft And Wet). Love Is Forever was included as the third track on Prince’s 1976 demo tape he took to various record companies in New York.

In 1976-1977, Prince re-wrote some of the lyrics, and recorded the song at Sound 80 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, under the title My Love Is Forever prior to signing a contract or beginning work on the album. A tape with some of the other tracks (Just As Long As We’re Together and the Jelly Jam portion as first at fifth track with Baby, Soft And Wet, My Love Is Forever and We’ll Make It Through The Storm) was made of that session.

Prince took full credit for My Love Is Forever and gave in exchange full credit on Make It Through The Storm to Chris Moon, which Moon also wrote lyrics for.

Specific recording dates for the album version of song are not known, but the album was recorded at the Record Plant in Sausalito, California, from 1 October 1977 to 22 December 1977, before overdubs and mixing took place, in early January 1978 at Sound Labs in Los Angeles, California.
