Josh Dunham

Josh Dunham is a bass player from Houston, Texas, married to Cora Coleman-Dunham, drummer in Prince's band. He was hired by Prince in early 2006 and has worked on and off with him in the studio and on tour until summer 2010.

Musical Career

Early Life

Josh began playing bass at the age of 16 and soon incorporated Kashmere High School 'Kashmere Jazz Ensemble' and the school marching band. During his senior year he had his first recording experience with Professor Conrad Johnson and other members of the Jazz Band. After graduating, he went on to study at Texas Southern University where he had the opportunity to perform with Jennifer Holiday.

From there he toured with several stage plays: 'Men Cry In The Dark', 'The Maintenance Man' and 'Friends & Lovers'.

Before working with Prince

In the midst of the touring Josh had the opportunity to work with a number of other incredible musicians such as

After working in both Houston and Los Angeles, with a wide variety of artists, amonst others Joe Sample & Lalah Hathaway, Michael Ward and Patti LaBelle, he relocated to the west coast and started to work with pianist/vocalist Frank McComb. While working with Frank, Josh also had a commitment in Winter 2004 with the Blue Note Jazz Café’s in Japan (Nagoya, Tokyo, Yokohama, Fukuoka and Osaka).

Upon returning to the states, Josh was offered to work with Prince and decided to call off his tour with the play 'Friends and Lovers'. From January to April 2005, Josh joined a band unit Prince was organizing. It featured Frank McComb, Jairus Mozee, Cora Dunham, Támar Davis, Ben Mauro and Tim Stewart.
