Hypnoparadise was released in July 2001, as part of NPG Music Club Edition # 6 as an mp3 download, credited to SymbolSmallerBlue.png (since he had recorded the track prior to reverting to the name Prince). In 2004 it was included as the fifth track on the compilation album The Slaughterhouse.

Initial recording dates are unknown, but the track was believed to have been recorded in 1998-9 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota. The repeated drum pattern heard throughout the song was also used for Baby Don’t Care.

SymbolSmallerBlue.png played a radically-different largely-instrumental version of the track a few times beginning in late December 1998, containing samples also used in Get Wild.
