Wasted Kisses is the uncredited 49th and final track on the New Power Generation’s third and final ’solo' album Newpower Soul (( Like) Funky Music, the album’s tenth track, was the final credited track, with tracks 11-48 silent tracks). The title is not given on the CD case or the CD itself, and is not mentioned verbatim in the lyrics, but on the final page of the CD booklet a cartoon uses the words "Wasted Kisses" with a fast-forward symbol showing how to reach the track.
While specific recording dates are not known, basic tracking took place between May and December 1997, at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota. The track was first played over a PA system during an afterparty at Tipitina’s Warehouse in New Orleans, LA, on 2 January 1998.
The song’s only known live performance took place almost 10 years after its recording, on 10 February 2007 (a.m.): 3121 Jazz Cuisine @ Rio Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas, NV, USA.
