Vavoom was released initially as an mp3 download as part of NPG Music Club Edition # 10. In 2004, a slightly longer version was included as the sixth track on the compilation album The Chocolate Invasion. Vavoom was not included on the aborted High album.
Recording dates are unknown, but the track was believed to have been recorded in early-to-mid 2000, at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota. Prince offered Vavoom to Mariah Carey for possible use on the soundtrack for Glitter but she didn’t like the song and never recorded her vocals on it.
