Undercover Lover is an unreleased song, which was premiered (in part) during The New Power Generation Radio Show (hosted by Prince (under the name Me, Myself and I) and Robin Power, Ingrid Chavez and Levi Seacer, Jr.) on Minneapolis radio station KMOJ on 9 December 1989. Undercover Lover was demoed by Robin Power before she met Prince. She gave him a tape containing the song when they met in late October 1989. A few weeks later, Prince invited Power to re-record her vocals over a new backing music for the track he created with Levi Seacer, Jr.. It was the first song Power and Prince worked on together.
While specific recording dates are not known, basic tracking took place in late 1989 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota, during the same set of sessions as Number 1. It was planned for inclusion on a proposed album by Robin Power, but Prince lost interest and the album was never completed.
