The War is a promotional only single by the New Power Generation, released initially as a RealAudio download from Love4OneAnother.com for a requested (but not required) $1.00 donation to Love 4 One Another Charities to be mailed to Paisley Park Studios.
A cassette promo was sent the following month to people around the world (initially thought to be those who had ordered Crystal Ball from 1-800 New Funk, but this was not the case, as some people who had ordered the album did not receive the cassette, and some who didn’t order it did receive the cassette).
A CD (promo) was later made available for sale through 1-800 New Funk for a brief period of time.
In 2005, the single was offered for download again through the NPG Music Club.
