Purple Rain was the third single from Prince’s sixth album Purple Rain (the first album to be credited to Prince and the Revolution). The single was the second to be credited to Prince and the Revolution.
It was released ten weeks after the album, and received a release around the world. Unusually, God (Love Theme From Purple Rain) was available on international versions of the single, but not in the US, where it has never had an official release.
The single continued Prince’s run of success, reaching number 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 Chart, and number 4 on the Billboard Black Singles Chart.
