Man‘O’War was the second promotional single from Prince’s 23rd album Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic, the sixth album to be credited to .
Man‘O’War was first sent in October 1999 to a few Dutch music journalists with information on how to obtain an invitation to the album listening session scheduled for 26 October 1999 (Baby Knows was also available around the same time in The Netherlands with the same artwork). This initial release contained So Far, So Pleased (listed as So Far So Pleased) as the second track. Man‘O’War was released as a promotional single in the USA in early 2000 with a new artwork and two different edits of the track. While the Man‘O’War (Radio Edit Without Guitar Solo) edit was also included in a BlackPlanet.com compilation released around the same time, the Man‘O’War (Radio Edit With Guitar Solo) was not available elsewhere.
The song reached number 22 on the Billboard Bubbling Under R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart.
