Let’s Go Crazy was the second single to be released from Prince’s sixth album Purple Rain, the first album to be credited to Prince and the Revolution (in the UK and Europe, Let’s Go Crazy was the third single, following Purple Rain).
Let’s Go Crazy marked the first single to be credited to Prince and the Revolution (the album’s first single, When Doves Cry, was credited only to Prince). The b-side, Erotic City, was previously-unreleased, and marked the first appearance by Sheila E. on a release credited to Prince (although her album The Glamorous Life, mostly written, performed and produced by Prince, was released six weeks earlier).
The single became a worldwide hit, repeating the number 1 chart position of its predecessor When Doves Cry on both the US Billboard Hot 100 Chart (where it was his second number 1 single) and the Billboard Black Singles Chart (where it was his third number 1 single, following I Wanna Be Your Lover and When Doves Cry).
