I Wish U Heaven was the third single to be released from Prince’s tenth album Lovesexy. It was released four and a half months after the album, and received a release around the world. Unlike the previous two singles from the album (Alphabet St. and Glam Slam), the single was released with traditional artwork.
On CD versions, the b-side Scarlet Pussy (a non-album track) was not listed, which made it the first "hidden track" on a Prince release. On the cassette single and vinyl it was listed, credited to Camille, marking the first time a b-side on a Prince single was not credited to Prince (although Camille is only a pseudonym for Prince).
While the first two single releases from Lovesexy included a clear sleeve with artwork only in the form of a sticker, I Wish U Heaven contained full artwork, with a cover photograph taken from the I Wish U Heaven video.
Interestingly, while the track is listed on the labels (as well as on the Lovesexy album) as I Wish U Heaven (contrary to No from the same album), the cover artwork for the single shows the title as Wish U Heaven.
The single did not enter the US Billboard Hot 100, but reached number 18 on the Billboard R&B Chart.
