In This Bed  Scream is the twelfth and final track on the first disc of Prince’s 19th album Emancipation, the third album to be credited to .
Basic tracking dates are unknown, but it is likely that the track was recorded in late 1995 or 1996 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota. It was created using feedback noise produced when Prince put a guitar on the floor. It is dedicated (in reversed text) in the album’s booklet to "Wendy and Lisa and Susannah", and Prince sent the song to Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman prior to its release for their input (in what could be interpreted as an apology for his past actions to them); they responded with some suggestions, but they did not hear back from him and their suggestions were not included on the released track.

- In the three weeks prior to Emancipation’s release, daily e-mails were sent out to fans to act as a countdown to the release, from the e-mail address bediscream@aol.com, the screenname taken from the song title In This Bed Scream.
- When was asked in an interview conducted through and published on his official website, Love4OneAnother.com on 17 November, 1997: "In the liner notes for Emancipation u say that "In This Bed Scream" is 4 Wendy, Lisa and Susannah. Would u explain why this song is for them? Have they responded 2 it?", he replied "They r non-responsive individuals".
