Hallucination Rain is the eighteenth track (eighth song) on the New Power Generation’s second ’solo' album Exodus. A week before the album’s release, however, the song was included as the third and final track on Get Wild, the album’s first single in the UK and Europe.
Basic tracking took place on 15 May 1994, at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota (during the same set of sessions as Get Wild, New Power Soul, The Exodus Has Begun, Slave 2 The System, Count The Days and It Takes 3). The original full-length version of the song was included as the twelfth track (sixth song) on the 19 June 1994 configuration of Exodus, but was not included on the 2 December 1994 configuration, before being returned to the album for its release. The track contains the only known contribution to a Prince-related track by David Bauder, an electric violin player from the Los Angeles Philharmonic junior ensemble, who was flown in to add his part after Prince met him in Los Angeles.
