Fantasia Erotica is the sixth track on Carmen Electra’s only album Carmen Electra, and, six months after the album’s release Fantasia Erotica was released as the album’s third single, containing several remixes of the track. Although official writing credit is split between Prince (music), Carmen Electra (lyrics) and Karen "K-Dean" Cover (rap), the track was originally recorded by Prince in 1989, before he began working with Electra.
Basic tracking took place in January 1989 at Paisley Park Studios, and the song was initially intended for an ultimately abandonned project with Anna Fantastic. In 2014, Anna Fantastic posted a video on her Facebook page of a rehearsal for a performance video of the song, dated 14 February 1989, and in 2018 a more complete version on YouTube, including two phone calls from Prince at the beginning and end, with him asking her to do a dance routine to it and him saying he called Warner Bros. Netherlands and they were okay to release it.
The girls that appear with Anna Fantastic in the video are her friends Tamara Chloé and Eliza Esther. It is assumed that nothing more came off it after this 'routine' video.
When work on Carmen Electra’s album began, this track was pulled from the vault as the starting point for the album. Further work was done on the track in March 1991, at Larrabee Sound Studios in North Hollywood, California when Carmen Electra’s vocals were added (during the same set of sessions as updated versions of Elephant Box, Slappy Dappy, Jadestone, Whispering Dandelions and Crystal City Cry, and recording Fun, Carmen On Top and Uh Huh).
It was included as the eighth track on a 15 June 1992 configuration of the album, then titled On Top (with the artist credit "Carmen"). A "Dance Remix" of the track was also planned for inclusion as the third and final track on a planned single of Fun, in 1991 (also with the artist credit "Carmen").
